Everything we do is in the time-honoured and traditional ways.  We do not refine our nectars, but boil the sap of the coconut flower to produce a sugar bursting with nutrients and minerals – and flavour. The result is a coconut nectar of unparalleled quality, aroma and taste.  

WHAT IS COCONUT NECTAR

Gula Melts Coconut Nectar is made from the Malaysian coconut palm. The sap from the budding flower blossom is boiled before the liquid ferments until it thickens, leaving a sticky nectar with a distinctive taste. 

With its unique flavour, the nectar from the coconut is the most aromatic and sought after of all the palm and natural sugars.

The nectar of the Borneo coconut is distinguished by a rich brown and a heavenly, fruity-caramel scent. Being a natural, unrefined nectar, the aroma differs as a result of the soil, moisture, temperature, and many other natural variations. No two harvests will taste exactly alike.

Gula Melts’ Coconut Nectar is a wholesome natural sweetener containing key vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients including potassium, zinc, iron and vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6 that have been leached out of refined (white) sugars.

Coconut Nectar has a low glycaemic index of 35 (honey’s is 55), avoiding the sudden highs and lows associated with refined sugars. Compared with brown sugar, coconut nectar has 18 times the potassium, 30 times the phosphorus and 10 times the amount of zinc.

Unlike other sugars, coconut sugar has a fiber called inulin, which may slow glucose absorption and explain why coconut sugar has a lower glycaemic index than white sugar.
